Hersey River Retreat

The place was clean and had plenty of sleeping options, blankets, pillows, and towels. Quiet, had plenty of appliances and utensils for most things, overall very nice and relaxing. Not too far of a drive from various places of interest. The hot tub was very nice, and pretty view of the river.

The property was beautiful and offered great amenities, but it’s one of those company-managed STRs and as such, it required an extra contract to be signed outside of airbnb and came with a barrage of automated messages- rules, and reminders that made it hard to relax. While clutter-free, the kitchen lacked basic essentials such as coffee and silverware. Check-in is late (4 PM) and check-out early (10 AM), though a noon extension was granted. Unfortunately, lawn care crew arrived at 9:15 AM, cutting into our hot tub time. We only stayed overnight. i imagine it’s better suited for longer stays to put some space between all the automated interruptions. Great location. Needs more ‘hospitality’.

We enjoyed our quick overnight stay at this Airbnb. The proximity to a creek made for a very restful stay. We saw a mama deer with her babies at dusk and early morning which was so special. The bed was comfy and the property met all of our needs. Can't wait to stay here again in the winter!

Great place for a peaceful and relaxing weekend. The house was cozy, and was the perfect way to spend some family time together! It was a home away from home with the space and loft, yet all the things we needed to cook meals, play games, and relax! The hot tub was also well maintained and enjoyable! Would definitely come back! The information on the wall when you come in was so helpful too. I highly recommend if your looking for a quiet enjoyable time away from the busy life- we even watched deer out the front window! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

The house was well appointed and matched the description of amenities. everything was clean and comfortable. It should be noted that neighbors are closer than the images might imply. It didnt prove to be an issue but should be noted if that detail matters.

It was such a wonderful stay, I could cry. It exceeded my expectations for how peaceful and lovely it was gonna be. Truly, the perfect getaway from everyday life. The vibes were immaculate!! So thankful!!!

We had a very relaxing time at the chalet, even though it rained most of the time. We were able to use the hot tub once which was great! The inside of the chalet was clean and very nice. It was probably the nicest rental we've ever stayed in. The beds were comfortable, sheets all clean and smelled great. The dining table was perfect for playing board games. The living room TV was large and great for movie watching. We fished the river and did hook a few big fish. It was wonderful seeing a big herd of deer hanging around the property every evening.

I booked my stay to get away from the hustle and bustle. The stay was for just me. This is the second property I’ve rented from Forest & Flow. The cabin was beautiful and very well maintained. With it not being quite spring yet, I could see the neighbors, but once the trees fill in, the property will be very private. I was able to watch the deer and lots or cardinals playing while I quietly drank my coffee on the porch in the morning. It was extremely peaceful. I loved the property and communication with Robert was extremely prompt and professional! I will absolutely be booking this location or another!

This rental is a true 5-star property. We will 100% be returning in the future. The listing was completely accurate; everything was just as pictured and described. The cabin was easy to find and perfectly located just outside of town, offering a peaceful setting while still being close to everything. Communication with the host was prompt, friendly, and helpful. Check-in was seamless, and the instructions for the amenities were clear and thoughtful. The cabin itself was spotless, cozy, and very welcoming. The newly added hot tub was a fantastic bonus—clean, private, and incredibly relaxing, especially on a cold winter evening. We loved unwinding by the fireplace, playing the provided games, and enjoying the nostalgic Super NES. Even though winter limited our time outdoors, the quiet setting made it easy to slow down and truly relax. This cabin genuinely felt like a home away from home, and we would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable, peaceful getaway.

This cabin was the perfect getaway. It was private, peaceful, comfortable, and had all the amenities. The host was super responsive and answered all our questions for a last minute booking. The outdoor hot tub under the stars was a highlight of our visit. We will definitely be back next time we are looking for an escape, comfort, and relaxation.

We loved our stay at Forest and Flow. As we arrived at the property there was a group of deer in the wooded area near the garage. The river flowing against the winter white backgrounds provided such a tranquil setting. This property is conveniently located near town, but it feels very isolated once on the property. The amenities the property included were mindful and helped connect the visitors to the beautiful surrounding nature. We visited during a cold spell of winter, but had no problems staying inside for most of our stay. We would definitely come back if visiting the area again.

From my initial booking and following interactions with Robert (great winter rates, by the way!) I was even more and more excited to spend some quiet winter time at the 'chalet'. Managed well, the house was warm, lit and inviting when I arrived. Easy entry. Lots of clear instruction in the days preceding my arrival. And a great hot tub to enjoy with ease! The house was clean. The setting is charming. The A-frame with windows, fireplace, overhead TV... so cozy. The loft overlooking it all ended up a great spot to write music. The king size bed in the master bedroom was so comfortable. I enjoyed the solace of being there so much, I rarely went out other than to snowshoe in the backyard along the Hersey River and grab some shawarma at local eatery "Little Egypt". Mind you it there was a blizzard and single digit temps. The house stayed warm though! Highly recommend! I see Forest & Frank have other properties, so I'll likely try one of their others soon to see if I can find a new favorite!

We’ve stayed here before and really enjoy this place, which is why we plan to come back again. The location is great, central to all my family. The unit is comfortable, and it’s an easy place to settle into. Linens and towels were clean, and overall the space met our needs very well. We’ve had a positive experience here and would absolutely stay again. The deer basically live on the property and we’re fun to watch. We had a wonderful "girls" weekend in Reed city. The house was perfect for our group! The hot tub was great. The swings are such a fun addition to the porch. Beds were comfy, too! Lots of dishes and cups for use. The host is informative and responsive.

We spent our 10th anniversary here in October and it was a beautiful place to reconnect and recharge from the busyness of life. The fall colors around the house were beautiful, as was the river. The fireplace made it cozy and the hot tub was a special treat. We saw lots of wildlife and enjoyed coffee on the deck. The loft area felt like a treehouse with all the windows and natural lighting. As others mentioned, the river is a bit steep to access, so we just enjoyed the view. The house is also a little more in town than we’d envisioned but it’s such a sleepy, friendly town that this was a non issue. It also meant we were close to some delicious restaurants (“Seven Slot Grill” and “J and A Little Egypt” were favs). Lots of good walking/biking opportunities around. Big Rapids close at hand. Host was incredibly responsive, directions very clear and he had a great sense of humor! Really a peaceful, beautiful space, especially in the fall.

This was our 4th year staying at one of Robert’s cabin rentals and it didn’t disappoint! The house was clean and tidy and updated. The property was spacious and private with the surrounding tree coverage. We brought our 2 dogs and they loved it too! While there were so many things we loved about this property, the hot tub was probably our favorite. It was super clean and a great way to relax after a long day of activities. Highly recommend staying at this cabin or any of the Forest And Flow properties :)

What a great spot on the Hersey River! Beautiful house, scenic views, and a big hot tub — what else do you need? The upstairs loft and deck is a great hangout lookout point. My husband and I stayed in mid September right as the leaf colors began to change and it was a beautiful backdrop! The outside fire pit was great, too. The yard surrounding it is very private and well kept. We were also greeted by deer in the side yard as we pulled in for our stay. Very peaceful vibe overall!

it was a great secluded seeming location, the one thing i noticed i didn’t like is how close the neighbors are, they’re not very close to be a problem but i was under the impression it was a lot more isolated, other than that great place to spend the weekend, kayaking was very fun but river is a little bit shallow in some spots.

We had a lovely time at this cabin in the woods along a creek. We were able to bring our dog, who loved exploring around the property and had an exciting morning watching deer run through the front lawn. All in all a lovely home, very comfortable beds (honestly, most beds are never as comfortable as your own but I have to admit I was a bit annoyed that the ones here are better than my own). There are lots of places to lounge and relax, enjoy a fire or sit in the hot tub and look at the stars. It's close to town, but it doesn't feel like it once you get onto the driveway to the home. We had a lovely time and would recommend it to any family that wants to relax and enjoy the area.

Forest and flow had everything they listed in the ad. It was a great escape from the hustle and bustle of the day to day grind in Grand Rapids. Really captured the northern Michigan calm. Robert, our host, was very responsive with anything we needed. Enjoyed the luxury of having a hot tub on the back porch. The kitchen was decently equipped with essentials. The house was loaded with fresh towels and linens. The appliances were great, loved the stove. Worth noting for potential visitors. The river running behind the house is a very steep bank with a sharp drop off into somewhat deep clay. The listing doesn’t call out easy access to the river, but with the name and having kayaks and tubes listed, I thought entry might be a bit easier than it was. Other than that, we had a great stay.

We enjoyed our stay. The cabin was nice and the property location is convenient, close to town with a country feel. We would definitely come back, but in the off season when the rates are a little more reasonable.

Rented this lovely place for a long weekend of off-roading. Perfect place, comfortable and beautiful surroundings. Had all the amenities we needed and then some. Hot tub was great after a long day in the sun. Had a fire outside each night, grilled out and relaxed. Well worth it.

The place was great. The host was helpful and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Only suggestion I would recommend is to hang some blinds or curtains. Almost all windows including the bedroom and bathroom had 0 blinds/curtains.

Very nice cabin close to the shops in Reed city with a wonderful kitchen, hot tub, and cozy tv area.

The hosts were very detailed in their listing and very responsive to last minute questions. The scenery was absolutely beautiful. The cabin was absolutely beautiful, cozy and set up so well to enjoy a getaway. As soon as I arrived there was a small family of deer that passed through the yard. The hot tub and wrap around deck were a perfect way to enjoy the river and snowfall during my stay. The natural light through the windows of the living room was a gentle wake up. The rooms and seating in the cabin are set up thoughtfully for multiple areas to socialize and enjoy company. Although the weather didn't permit all of the amenities - I definitely hope to return in the summer to take advantage of the hammocks and kayaks that the hosts have available for guests. 👌🏼

We had a great weekend getaway! We spent the weekend reading and playing board games. The couch and seating upstairs were very comfortable and the table the perfect size to spread out on for games.

This was the perfect place to take our family for a few days to reset and relax together. We absolutely loved the loft style with having young kids it was so convenient all being able to sleep comfortably in the same area. The beds and pillows were so comfortable also. We loved that there was a selection of family friendly board games and some video games from our childhood that we got to introduce our kids too. We saw a family of deer walk across the front of the property that our kids thought was awesome. We LOVED having access to the newly added hot tub as well. That was an experience we all loved with -10° temps. Robert was a great host, provided detailed instructions and suggestions. He truly cares about his guests. We felt safe and secure even in a place with no window treatments (the purpose of a chalet). Would absolutely recommend staying here as a couple or as a family with kiddos.

The property is on a large private lot with mature trees and you can't beat the sound of flowing water from the river. The host provided clear directions, and was very prompt in answering questions we had. The only downfall was booking a few days too early to enjoy the new hot tub.

We had a perfect weekend for my daughter’s 30th birthday at this beautiful chalet. Great location, beautiful views. Super close to stores and restaurants. Spacious and cozy living room for lounging, comfy beds. We’ll be back next month! And would love to come back in spring/summer to enjoy the outdoor space. I recommend this place!

We loved the property, the view of the river off the deck upstairs was beautiful, especially after it snowed. Town was really close, but you still felt like you were far away from it. The property manager was really easy to get ahold of when needed. Also, the bed was really comfy, and that's hard to find sometimes. We would definitely stay here here again!

This location was beautiful. We walked a number of trails and 45 min away went tubing. There are shops minutes away if you forget anything as well. Highly recommend for a relaxing fun cozy family getaway! We stayed in the winter and the fireplace was cozy with deer walking daily out the window!

Went there on a fishing trip with the family and had a great time. The beds are very comfy and the property was nice a private. We had a good time playing some old video games that they have at the house. The communication was great if I had any questions they got back to us very quickly. I would highly recommend this little slice of heaven carved in the woods.

My husband and I came to enjoy a few days of R&R for our 16th anniversary and this house was the perfect spot. We liked that it was in a small town yet close to a city for a large selection of restaurants. We hiked a few locations all within 20 minutes of the cabin. We weren’t able to use the kayaks because of timing but there is access to a few rivers and creeks relatively close. The house was clean and comfortable and Robert was quick to respond to my questions.

The Hersey River Retreat is a lovely, very comfortable and well maintained property surrounded by mature trees and native wild flowers… It is the perfect setting if you are looking for a peaceful and quiet getaway surrounded by nature. Though not your secluded cabin in the woods, it is off of a quiet street and private enough that deers, wild turkeys and chipmunks will be the only neighbors you will see. There is a very steep path leading you down to a bench overlooking the river but no direct or safe access to the river itself from the property sadly. Reed city has a grocery store, liquor store, a few spots to eat, trails and bike paths less than 5 minutes away from the house. Our dog enjoyed the yard and sunbathing on the porch and our family had a very relaxing time...

My stay here at the chalet was exactly what I needed. Sitting on that great deck or in the yard was quiet and peaceful and I could hear the river. Beautiful view of the river from the upstairs balcony. If you sit outside quietly at dusk you’ll see deer and wild turkeys. Local restaurants were pretty good. The home was very clean. Nice clear instructions on check in and check out. Bed and pillows were comfy. Couch was nice and had a blanket for cuddling up. Host was very communicative & open to hearing my suggestions. I would love to stay here again or at one of their other homes because I know it will be a nice & safe place to stay.

Great place for the value! We booked same day and came an hour after booking for check in, it was super smooth and a great one night getaway. We even locked ourselves out at one point and the host responded within minutes and we were able to get back to relaxing. Thank you for having us!!

This was our first time at an Airbnb and they did a great job of making us feel comfortable and answering all of our questions. They even had great suggestions on activities for us to do.

This was a last minute vacation idea. We loved staying at the chalet. The design is very thoughtful. We highly recommend! Our goal was to escape the city for a couple of days and recharge. Our dog enjoyed all the deer that visited the neighbors. (we didn't have any issues with ticks). The mosquitoes were not terrible (do bring bug spray) considering how close the river is. They do a great job cleaning up the landscape.. it is beautiful! Reed City is located around 1 hour from Grand Rapids. It is a small community around 2,500 people. There is a grocery store but they don't sell beer kind of place. My advice is to bring everything you need and enjoy the chalet.

This cabin was absolutely perfect! The creek in the back was so peaceful and relaxing, and the entire place was just beautiful. It's easily one of my favorite Airbnb stays ever, and I can't wait to come back!

It was a very well taken care of property. You can tell the owners take pride in their listing and desire to make your stay as comfortable as possible. They were available at all times. It was a beautiful chalet that I was very comfortable in! I can appreciate the hard work in maintaining this property as well as they do! Well done!

Very nicely decorated the light fixtures add such a warm touch to the place. Very quiet road close to town. Sleep with the window open and fall asleep to the sounds of the river flowing and wake up to the sounds of birds. For reed city being a smaller town honestly the food choices are amazing. We hit up the local brewing company and enjoyed a nice peanut butter porter. If you’re looking for just a nice, cozy place to sneak away to this location hits the spot. Also the pillows and blankets are amazing in the bedrooms it’s an obvious step they did not skimp on. We slept so nicely and woke up feeling very refreshed. Over all great experience.

My friends and I had a great time here

My boyfriend and I wanted to get away to take a break from the day to day work life and be able to do bring our dogs along and this was the perfect spot! The host was very responsive to questions and was extremely friendly, the best experience we have had with a host through Airbnb! The location was so amazing and full of wildlife! There was an adorable deer family in the yard almost everyday of our stay and we saw so much activity from turtles on the river as we relaxed in the sun on the upstairs balcony. At night we were able to watch movies and spent several hours feeling like kids playing games on the Nintendo! I recommend this place for anyone needing a recharge! There is so much more that they have available for you to do without even leaving the property that we didn’t do so I know this would be a great fit for all different types of guests!

Quiet neighborhood in a small town with beautiful rivers snaking through it. The home was well furnished and clean. The host was responsive. We enjoyed ourselves and relaxed.

Perfect for a quiet getaway. Staring out the window and seeing deer cross in the yard was the highlight of my stay. Every morning 7/7:30 as the sun didn’t come up til 8am. My daughter wanted to stay an extra day but we couldn’t. Really quiet, private and peaceful. Loved hearing the roosters and goats across the river and also the woodpeckers. I’ll definitely be back.

Great little Cabin near snowboarding areas. Brand new kitchen and furniture. It was really cozy for a long weekend away! Close to big rapids for food and right outside downtown Reed City! On the river and near other homes, but this cabin has enough land to not feel you are in the neighborhood. Great price for this getaway!

Robert's cummunicaution was fantastic the location was awesome clean and easy access to get inside clean silverware and dishes great accommodations. The only dislikes i have is their were not tv,s in every room other then that I highly recommend this property. 👌

What a beautiful home! Our stay was in the midst of a snowstorm and this home provided a perfect place to watch the snow fall from the comfort of our rental. It was soooo peaceful and serene! Our hosts were diligent and hospitable. It was very apparent that they wanted us to enjoy ourselves and have everything we needed for our stay. Definitely a great price too! Can’t wait to stay at one of Forrest And Flow’s properties in the near future!

Wonderful stay! We extended twice, which speaks for itself. Robert was exceptionally communicative and responsive to our needs. The property feels private and peaceful, right next to a beautiful stream that you can hike down to. The building is spacious, beautiful, and has all-new everything, so it feels pretty luxurious. The gas fireplace, comfy couch, and huge TV made for many cozy movie nights! They are still adding small things, so if you need anything additional during your stay just reach out to them. We plan to book again next time we are in Reed City for work, and maybe check out their other properties too.

Awesome place to stay at

The house was exactly as charming as it appears in its listing. The wall of windows in the living room really sells the space; it was absolutely gorgeous. The property is fairly well secluded: you can only see the neighbor across the river. Simply put, it's a very quiet and peaceful getaway. The host, Robert, was extremely responsive and I have to give him major credit for his honesty. We were some of the first guests after the place was renovated and he was very open about some things in the house still being a work in progress. Without this warning I probably would have knocked off a star, but it wasn't a big deal when I knew what to expect. The only downside is that this likely is not a great stay if your intent is to sleep in all morning. Between the natural light and the neighbor's animals (goats and chickens) you probably aren't sleeping much past sunrise. I found it appealing, but some may not.

Nice little place for a getaway. It felt private and was nice to see the river from the porch and balcony.
